Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regions belongs to the continental climate, sunshine foot, there is little rainfall, annual rainfall 150mm, the difference in temperature of the whole district day is generally above 12 degrees Centigrade.The total population in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regions is more than 16,800,000 , and ethnic minority population is more than 10 million , accounts for 62.1% of the whole district total population, include Uygur mainly, 13 nationalities , such as Chinese , Kazak , Hui , Mongolia , Kirgiz , Tadzhikistan , Uzbek , Tartar , Manchus , Russia ,etc., the ethnic minority believe in Islam more, it is one of Chinese Moslem's main compact communities.
Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regions is divided into 5 automonous prefectures, 8 regional government offices, 3 prefecture-level cities, 85 county-level cities, 11 areas under the jurisdiction of the municipal government, the provincial government of autonomous region is set up in Urumchi.
Five automonous prefectures: Kazak Autonomous Prefecture of Ili , Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture of Bortala , Hui Autonomous Prefecture of Changji, automonous prefecture of Bayinguoleng , Prefecture of Kezilesukerkezi.
Eight regional government offices: Areas of Ili Prefecture , Tacheng Prefecture , Altay Prefecture , Keshen , Hami Prefecture , Hotan Prefecture , Accra area , Turfan area.
Three prefecture-level cities: Urumchi , Kelamayi , Shihezi.
